Job Description: Child Nutrition Worker

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior employment history in the commercial food service industry
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment including but not limited to ovens, steam jacketed kettles & skillets, steamers, mixers, choppers, dish machines, holding and serving equipment
  • Must be able to:
    1. Understand and follow routine oral and written instructions and work schedules
    2. Understand and follow all safety precautions related to cleaning materials and equipment.
    3. Get along with other employees, supervisors, students, and visitors.
    4. Walk and/or stand for approximately 6 hours daily.
    5. Safely lift and handle up to 30 pounds.
    6. Twist, bend, sit, squat, kneel, pull, and stand during repetitive tasks
    7. Competence for learning assigned duties including but not limited to cashiering
    8. Must be willing to submit to and pass drug screening.
    9. In accordance with Mississippi Code S37-9-17, all personnel employed by the public-school system shall be required to pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.
  • Preferred:
  1. Current Food Safety Certification
  2. Current Jobsite Safety Certification

REPORTS TO:  Child Nutrition Manager

JOB GOAL:        To serve the students, faculty, and guests of the Harrison County School District attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:            Duties and responsibilities may be assigned, including but not limited to:
  1. Prepare Meals: Measure, mix, cut, dice, slice, stir, bake, boil, braise, and steam ingredients according to written recipes using a variety of commercial kitchen equipment
  2. Package Meals: Assembly food items in advance for offsite service
  3. Monitor Production: Inspect food and equipment throughout the preparation and cooking process
  4. Serving Meals: Distribute meals politely according to nutrition regulations
    1. Cashier and receive payments according to nutrition & finance regulations
  5. Cleaning & Sanitation: Performed throughout each day.
  1. Clean work areas, flat & vertical surfaces, equipment, and utensils
  2. Wipe down serving lines completely between classes or meal periods
  3. Wipe down dining room tables between classes or meal periods
  4. Sweep and mop the dining room and storage room floors
  5. Sweep, mop, and deck scrub kitchen floors and restrooms
  6. Operate commercial dish machine
  7. Setup and operate a standard three compartment pot & pan sink
  8. Dispose of garbage and sanitize receptacles
  1. Storage:
    1. Stock & rotate cold and dry items from deliveries in a neat and efficient manner.
    2. Remove items from cold or dry storage in a safe manner.
    3. Count and write quantities of inventory items on pull sheets
    4. Assist manager during the Physical Inventory process
  2. Safety:
    1. Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary facility always.
    2. Report any repairs and safety hazards immediately to immediate supervisor.        
    3. Understand & follow all HCSD Safety Policies and Procedures.

Additional Duties:  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager and/or Director of Child Nutrition

Equipment:          Computer, email, telephone, two-way radio, a variety of industrial food production and service equipment, refrigeration and hot food holding equipment, floor care and cleaning products, carts, mops, brooms, dusters, spray bottles, and brushes.

Travel Requirements:  Travel to school district buildings and meetings as required. 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:  Work in standard school building environments.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  185 days a year with the wage and work year to be established by the School Board.

EVALUATION:  Performance of the Child Nutrition Prep will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions in the School Board Policies and Procedures.
